Mac Ruby Woo Matte Lipstick

Today we're going to talk about lipstick instead!

When I moved to Germany, Mr Koala gifted me this beautiful Ruby Woo lipstick from Mac, and it came in a set with a lip liner. Unfortunately, the lip liner is currently MIA, and I only have the lipstick.

Now, Mr Koala doesn't like red lips, in fact he cringed whenever someone on TV wears a red lip, no matter how beautiful it looks on the lady. I presume he gave me Ruby Woo to make up for the time when he gave me Mac's Heroine as part of a Christmas Advent Calendar. I was full of anticipation, hoping for a nice neutral colour or even a red lipstick, and when I uncapped the lipstick and saw a bright purple, I gasped "PURPLE??" in great shock.

I was sure he was pranking me, but apparently he hunted down that specific colour because he likes purple, and even compared it in store with my photo to make sure it matches me. I'm still not sure how bright purple matches me, but he insisted it does.

I haven't gathered up the courage to wear Heroine yet, after three years. And I never will. But today's look is about Ruby Woo, which is a beautiful red lipstick that is one of Mac's best-sellers.

Somehow, I lack the courage to wear a bold lip. I can rock the boldest smokey eyes, but I turn to a coward when it comes to my lips. I have an unusual lip shape that's downturned with a protruding cupid's bow, and my lips have very little colour naturally. So I am not used to seeing pigment on my lips and wear natural nudes exclusively. I also don't have the whitest teeth and will not bleach them as they are already weak af. However, deep in my heart, I love a red lip and hope to wear one out with confidence.

Today, I tried to pair the bold red lip with a winged liner but that failed. Miserably. It's impossible to draw a crisp line when you are not wearing glasses and can't see for shit. So I had to turn the crisp liner to a smudged look, and I even smudged my lipstick in an attempt to make it look less harsh. I find that smudging the edges of a bold lip makes it more natural.

Smudged edges to look more natural

When wearing a bold lip, I prefer to make the rest of the makeup more natural. I say that like I wear bold lips often when I've never left the house once with a red lip lol.

I do like the look, but I would not dare wear it out, especially since Mr Koala is not particularly encouraging when it comes to red lips. So I am destined to just wearing it in my flat and taking pictures for my blog. Maybe next time I'll try the Mac Heroine for the blog also.
